Is there a pro/con to using the alternator from a 4 cylinder Fiero in the 3800SC conversions? Mine came with the A/C removed and a coupe alternator in place. The car seemed to kill batteries fairly quickly, so I was curious if maybe the alt is going bad, or perhaps the OEM 3800 alt is better choice. What do you all use/suggest?
Well the 84-87 SI alternators are a two wire plug and the 3800SC alternators are a 3 wire plug. There are two different style connectors on the series II alternators. On 96-97 buick riverias the alternator uses the same 3 wire plug that the 88 fiero uses. But the 98-03 3800SC uses a 3 wire plug but its different. I am actually going to use the 3 wire plug and the riveria alternator on my 3800SC swap because i am using a purple reign low mount bracket and also its a 140 amp stock.
