When i start my car and I select 1st gear the car acts as if was in neutral. Ill fool around with it and ill eventually get going. second, third, fourth and fifth are fine. But the gears grind when I try to reverse. Its very annoying. any ideas?

Could be your clutch needs to be bled. Mine needs it and

Check out my thread "5 speed woes" (fairly recent, updated today). I found some very good information, got some more from other members, and found some articles on the subject.

Maybe the shift cable has come apart at the tranny end? Mine did but I lost 2 gears. Instead of the cable sliding back and forth to shift, it buckles at the end.
