Ok, my question is what are the differences between the 87 and 88 2.8 V6?

if i were to drop an 88 v6 into an 87 would it run? are the PCM's compatible, will the 87's mounts fit to the 88?

thanks

The two engines are almost identical. There are only a few minor differences, but nothing that would prevent the engine from running.

Just make sure to use the '88 V6 flywheel or flexplate, because the '87 one won't work. Also, if the '88 V6 is complete with alternator and wiring harness, it'll save you some trouble.

The front motor mount is different on the 88 so you might have to use the 87 mount, not sure if the mounts line up the same.
As far as the ecms they would be different but actual running of the engine where should be no big difference. Most of the plugs should be the same or you might have to swap a couple items from the 88 to the 87. The alternator plugs will be different, but I'd use the 88 one.

Sure there are members that know a lot better, but overall there should be very few problems putting an 88 into an 87 that you can't resolve very easily.
