Has anyone been unhappy with their SBC car after it was finished?
I知 not talking about any of the kits.
I知 asking if you致e ever regretted it when driving your car.

Do you have one? Have you ever had one? Are you planning to do one? Why do you want to know?

I feel no different about my V8 fiero then I did about my V8 camaro. It does get more attention but I have it for the same reason I had the camaro, I liked it.
I have always enjoyed wrenching on my cars, every car I have had was unfinished because it could always be better so I never stop working on it.
Unhappy would probably be to strong of a word, not satisfied so I have to install more parts would be more accurate.

Truth be told its been finished 3 times now

They're loud, heavy, gas sucking, attention whores. What's there to be unhappy about. I'm so happy I have 2 of them.
Guess I don't make this list.

Yeah. I don't know why I can read "hidden agenda" all over it. You should also start the same thread for the other engnines to get more or less the same of it.

I'm unhappy because:
1) I should have done it a lot sooner
2) I wish I could drive it more
3) I wish I had made it even faster
4) I wish I had built a couple of them
5) I wish I had met Archie sooner

Frankly...it works for me, whatever floats your boat..am totally happy.

Un happy? How can you be un happy with your toy.... as with any toy it's a work of art... an extention of your own personality.... a love that's held in the heart and eyes of the builder and designer... a never ending project..... Like a son or daughter maybe a grandson or granddaughter.... hmm Hey Archie... how many offspring you got out there now? Don't forget to count step children from other parents....

The happiness is only as good as the builder build it...

I'm very happy with my 86 GT ZZ4 sbc.

Vince

I understand why people get upset at threads like this. For me, I feel my car is an extention of myself and tells a little story about my personality. You just can't take a simple question like this personally. Just remember we are only discussing why you may not be happy with your choice not attacking you for you choice. No offence, but I honestly dont give a crap if you like yours or not, but it is nice to here the reasons anyways. Its a good way to exchange information and get ideas out there to make every swap better and help everyone get the engine that is best suited to them and not just the ones that are most common or "pushed" the hardest. I see no problems with posts like this and no reason to get upset over them. If anyone should be asking a question like this it SHOULD be the person who does not have one. That way they can learn from the people that do. If you have an SBC then there really is no reason to ask this question, now is there. You already know. If you are completely happy with every aspect of you SBC swap then a simple NO should sufice or maybe this thread is not the place for you.

I'm suprised that no one is unhappy with their SBC. Its not the perfect motor for everyone. I'm sure someone out there wished they would have made a different choice after it was complete.

To stay on topic I am happy with the one SBC that we have. It is not in a fiero though. It has it pro's and cons but does exactly what we intended it to do. So my answer to the question asked would be no, not unhappy with it in general though there are things I wish it did better.

Thats what I was wondering. My reasons are listed in the next sentance. I apologise if I read it wrong but it already sounded like some WERE getting upset. I'll just butt out. Later buddy.

My ONLY regret is that I did not do it sooner. I had the car for 10 years before Archie installed the LT1 and that was 5 years ago.
In the last couple of months the heads have a 5 angle valve job, and a port and polish. The block is .030 over and has a LT4 Hot Cam kit installed with stiffer springs and the car was topped off with a Archie installed G6 tranny. What is not to love.

This car is not a daily driver as I use my 87GT for that.

hell, i dont even expect people to give a reason. just say if you're happy with it or not.

and attacking someone for there choice in what engine to put in their car is just silly...
it's their car!
if you think Bob should have a different engine in his car, then you can pay for the engine and the labor for having it installed.
i'm sure Bob will be very happy with whatever you pick.

Buddy, I think we're all teasing you a little.. A V-8 Fiero is not any different than any other engine swap on any other car... It's never going to be like it was before the swap... somethings are improved and others take the toll.... Overall is the response your going to get and overall I'm happy with what I have built. After the swap I found some things I didnt like, the suspension, the brakes... so I updated them so I did like them..... I don't drive mine everyday as I have 4 to pick from so I built mine for fun... Vince

it's their car!
if you think Bob should have a different engine in his car, then you can pay for the engine and the labor for having it installed.
i'm sure Bob will be very happy with whatever you pick.

I am not trying to offend anyone in this thread. I made not statements pointing to any particular person. In fact the whole point of my post was to say that it is a choice that only the driver can make. I said that I understood why it is a touchy subject or group of people or any particular engine. Right off the bat in this thread I say a flame war breaking out but it could have just been my interpretation of the things written. I never said I think anyone should have a different engine. In fact I said in my post that I don't give a crap what anyone has in thier car. It make no difference to me cause its not my car. I like the SBC just not in my fiero. That is my choice and has nothing to do with anyone. I thought it was an honest question and I really wanted to hear some honest answers. I don't know why what I said got anyone upset. I never said I was upset and did not come after you or anyone in this thread or any others. I just don't understand why you are coming after me. Please re-read my thread CAREFULLY to see what I actually said.

I didn't flame anyone and I don't feel that I said anything to have to defend myself over. Your question did not pertain to the fiero directly but now I see that that was you intent. Sorry if I pissed you or anyone else off in this thread, that was not my intention. Hope you are enjoying your new dash lights.

One other thing. The line about "if you have an SBC then there really is not reason to ask this question" was not an attack on you. I honestly thought when I was typing it that you did not have one and it was in response to something else I read in this thread. It was not directed to you. My apologies. I didn't even want to come back to this thread but I will defend myself when I feel attacked.

I love my SBC car. It is now on the second SBC (400 street motor) with well over 50,000 of race only miles on the first one (327 race motor and it still works, crated up for its next swap). The first one was completed in 1980 and lasted for about 25 years of racing. That is most impressive IMO and proof to me that most SBC's are great motors. Again its not in a fiero but I'm not talking about the fiero I'm talking about the motor as your initial question stated.

Yes, I put a SBC 350 in my 84SE 8 or 9 years ago. And I am still delighted with it.
I致e had a few mechanical issues.
I had a fuel pressure regulator go bad at a car show in St. Louis.
And, moron me, had straight water in it one year, totally forgot about it and froze out the sides of the block and cracked the water pump.
So I had to build another short block for it.

I知 close to 60,000 miles now, and I still don稚 even turn on the radio cause I love to listen to the engine.

If (when) my 85 finally dies, I知 sure I値l do some sort of swap, but I haven稚 decided which one.
I keep going back and forth between 4.9, 4.3 and 3800sc.

The PROs 3800 thread got me thinking about how much I liked my car.
After all this time, I知 still in love with it.
I absolutely have no regrets for doing my swap.

So I stated this thread to see if it was just me or if the other SBC guys felt the same way.
I was ambiguous because I didn稚 want it to be a 的 love my car thread,
I wanted to see if any have ever felt like 的 less than love my car.
I know I haven稚.

after lots of debate and flip flopping my daughter and i just flew out to wisconsin last friday spent 45 min looking over a sbc 84 fiero negotiate then began the long 19hr treck home with it. In ohio it threw an alternator belt at 9:30 sat. night barely made it to rest area of course closest parts store was closed so, car stays and we go to nearest town stay at a ratty hotel , worry about my new car getting stolen or towed, loose 12 hours waiting on parts store, finally get the belt, jack, some tools from parts store and go change that darn belt in the snow and rain and oh yeah did i mention my 15 year old tacking along on this nightmare, so we get back on the road to find out apparently i got an air bubble that i cant get out of my coolant system, every hour or so loose heat and time stopping to bleed system. Now 42 hours into this 19 hour trip we hit snow and this SBC FIERO stinks in the snow NIGHTMARE. FINALLY get it home after spending all the money to buy it, fly out get it, gas to come back, plus the TOLLs you want to ask if there are any UNHAPPY sbc drivers.................I dont know any!!!!!!!!!! Iwould do it all over again in a heart beat I love my sbc fiero ive owned four fieros in my life this is my first v8 and i love it and my daughter and I now have a pretty cool story to tell. thanx for asking

Wow! What fun.... That sucked... I don't want to rub salt in the wound but as for myself, I would have trailered it back not knowing anything about the car and having my daughter with me, and also a storm coming through in the middle of wintertime... But I just think about things like that before I make a jump.. Vince

Glad your ok though... could have been alot worse.

Ok, so if you had one why you didn't answer that one above? Anyway, with so many SBC/Archie haters I have been tired of this type of thread go south by the SBC trolls and we all know them very well. And my answer of course is no. An SBC with a good install is no different problemwise from any other engine even stock. The guy above threw a belt but the stock V6 next to it had a water pump die. So what? I wish everyone would pick his choice and keep the bad opinions to themselves. But I think what makes a V8 (any V8) special in a Fiero is "that" V8 sound because no one expects that in a small car like ours.

I've had mine almost two years, used it most of the time as my daily driver (60 miles per day). Very happy with it. Only time I didn't drive it was when my son used it commuting to high school his senior year (72 miles round trip).
