05 3500 from a malibu, lt1 twin 48mm tb, hand made composite dual plenum intake, 60degreev6.com 1280 cam and pr, ls6 valve springs, ported lower plenum, 3400 modified fuel rail, 24lb injectors, 3.4 iron head head gaskets (10.26 cr), ported and polished heads, ported trueleo headers, rigged y pipe (ill get it to an exhaust shop when i can!), tce reluctor wheel (external crank trigger), 7730 ecm, flowtech muff, more explination later, im tired. heres the pics
tapped the head for the larger sensor modified fuel lines for fiero connections notched the decklid with an angle grinder tce reluctor wheel, modified dual plenum with fancy paint....not done yet ugly what goes here?
its obvious that its not finished yet. still gotta sort some things out. wont be long now tho! really have to get the y pipe welded up, i used flex hose and clamps! gotta get the alt hooked up, cut the manifold studs, make an intake pipe, sort out the vac lines, test it for leaks, secure wiring from headers, make ac connections, and of course tuning.
what ya think?

part lt1, part 3500. im waiting on my brother so i can get the pictures of the guts of this thing. i recived a cracked upper plenum and this is what i did with it. its not done yet, still have to make bosses for the bolts, plane the tb flange, make vacuum fittings, sand, paint....bla bla bla. but the structure is all there. the lid is made of mat and 3k twill weave, polyester resin, jbweld the base is obviously a 3500. i did hack a perfectly good lt1 manifold for this, but its been 2 years and the damn thing wouldnt sell.
the plenum volume is about 70 cu.in. per side, throttle bore is 48mm per side. iac and tps are stock lt1, the iac port goes to a chamber that feeds both plenums (plena?) and also shares the vacuum for the iac and brake booster. the individual plenums are fed by thier own pipes in a similar fashion to the stock 3500.
im not hoping to make any extra power, i just want to see what happens here. it was a fun project to knock out while i was waiting for my new 3500 intake to come in. i will use this one if all works out well
the paint on here was just to check to see if i needed to go further with the sanding.... heres why

Dayumn d00d, thats intense, does need a little finishing work lol but thats a wild setup, can't wait to see/hear it run. I don't get what you made the intake out of, could you pm me details, I am looking for a way to make a new upper plenum for my 2.8L.

fiberglass, good old fashon layup. i used mat, 3k twill woven roving, styrephome mold, lt1plenum neck, lt1 tb, 3500 upper intake, playdoh (playdoh and jb weld is a no no!!!), styrene polester resin, mekp, lots of sand paper, and misc suplies.
if i had the time, id make you one for the 2.8. but im just to damn busy right now.
I was wondering why you didn't use the stock location for the crank position sensor then I remembered the 3500 does not have a 7x ring on the crank. I need to get in touch with my friend and see if I can have some more made for those wanting to use the internal option i'm using. Your success should encourage others to do more of these swaps over the 3.4 . You should be off to a good start with a 3.1 program and fuel injector correction in the chip initially. I'm still working out the acceleration enrichment tables so I can finally test drive the 3.9, it's starting to rev pretty fierce.
Where's the turbo

ill be starting with my tune from the 3.4 i had in there. i was using dis as well. hopefully i dont get into a KR situation. i used the 3.4 iron head gaskets and heads where milled some. so thats gonna put me much higher than the stock 9.8 compression. plus using the alum heads with the iron head fuel spark tables is gonna be bad ju ju. luckily i can detune this with the tce reluctor wheel

I've got some 10" wide fiberglass, what else do I need to buy and where can I get it. Do I sculpt it out of styrofome (sp?), seal it wit something, lay glass over that, resin it with something, then cut the fiberglass into two peices, pull it off the mold, then glue it back together? I somewhat understand how to go about it but I wouldn't know where to buy the stuff. If you want to prevent a thread hi-jack, pm me. and we can talk about it there or I can give you my AIM, I've talked to your brother the other day randomly haha.

well it was pissing fuel outa the rail, but got it all good now. it runs it runs. no vac leaks and it sounds mean as ****. gotta bad exhaust leak, but i was expecting it. the leak is causing it to run rich as ever. but over all its doing great. revs very fast. those plenums are on the small side so it helps the thing rev fast. im sure my higher rpm numbers wont be as high as they could be with the stock plenum...but torque is more fun in a 2450lb car. i have the iac feeding into the same chamber that the map, brake booster, fpr, evap and all that runs into...at about 10% throttle it kinda goes flat, give it more and it revs fine. just 10% seems odd. my data logging laptop just crashed. dunno what im gonna do now with that. but i assume its a prob with the vacuum all coming from the same area.
coolant line caps exploding is funny. it makes you think fire really fast when working with a fiero. had a couple nipple caps blow off and scared the **** outa me. but all is well now. ill post a vid in a sec

You seriously need to reconsider this and start with a tune for an aluminum head engine, others who know a lot more about tuning than I do will probably confirm this mainly because of how different the spark table is for an aluminum head engine vs. cast iron and also because of the vastly improved flow characteristics in the 3500. Once you get your ALDL back up and running you might find quite a bit of knock retard under load and maybe even off load.

Dern you guys. I used to live in Norman, now I'm way over here. Why do all the cool cars have to be over there? Well, there are some cool ones here too, but jeez.
The 3500 sounds like a sweet build, definitely sounds meaner at idle than my twin turbo L98 IROC-Z (though it isn't ), but the exhaust leak might help that, heh. Still, everyone's going to ask you which V8 you put in there.
