I was on Lloyde's site, someone selling a wrecked SS supercharged, thinking that the electric power steering system might adapt itself to a fiero. Anyone know if the geometry supports this? might be a cool option if so.

You can do a whole setup w/ pump, lines and rack for less than $200 using s-10 parts, the rack is only like 1.5" different in length I believe

Just throwin' it out there.

cobalts have hydraulic power steering .what is neat about them(and all ecotecs) is the small pump bolted directly to the cyl head on an output drive from a camshaft .no belts or brackets needed .

FWD cars are rear steer (rack behind front axle centerline) and the Fiero is front steer (rack in front of axle centerline). If you put a FWD rack on a Fiero, the wheels would turn opposite of the steering wheel. If you flipped the rack, you'd have RH drive.

Has anyone looked into using Mustang II rack? Those are used all over the place in the drag racing and street rod world.

As far as I know, the S-10 uses a gearbox and pitman arm setup, not a rack. They have the same front end as the 78-87 GM G body (Monte Carlo, Malibu, Grand National, etc.) The Astro van uses the same parts, too.

wftb, the cobalt and G5 don't have hydraulic steering, they put a plug in the head where the cavalier's PS pump used to be. It's an electric servo.

For power steering that works, check out:
https://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum2/HTML/069722.html

I have the fast ratio ZR1 rack on my 88GT. Not to sure how this would work on pre 88's if you have one, but I think the question is addressed within the thread.
Dave.

Its electric assisted, I just looked, there is still a shaft going to the steering rack. I think it basically has an electric driven hydraulic pump instead of a belt driven one.

I would say the EPS for the Cobalt is not a hydraulic unit, and you need to read this page > http://www.fastfieros.com/t...c_power_steering.htm

If you happen to be interested in buying that unit that is in the pictures, it is $200 includes shipping to the lower 48 states... the key is in the switch.

To be honest with you guys, I find the road feel to be non existent in My Cobalt SS Supercharged... most people I've talked to agree it's because of the electric rack.

i stand corrected .but i would like power steering just to get rid of the excessive kick back you get from the front end of 84 -87 years with wide tires .those electric units look really interesting .
