So my clutch has been going out for over a year now. Amazing how hard I continued to drive it. I noticed my motor really had worn mounts. My dogbone is worn and I thought the other mounts were worn as well. Turns out both the tranny mounts were busted in pieces! I thought the clutch pedal was a little hard to push and noticed it hanging up a bit. Come to find out the release bearing is in two pieces the clutch fork is bent and only one side of it is engaging the bearing. And it's so dirty that what was left of the release bearing would barely move. Nevertheless I continued to hot rod this car to work daily!!! Anyhow here is some quick shots of what I found and what the tranny out the side job kinda looks like.

I pulled the tranny using info from The Fiero Factory

Here is where the special 8" 2x4 goes.

A shot pressure plate.

Broken rear tranny mount bracket.

A somewhat worn release bearing. J/K

A bent clutch fork.

And a well organized workspace.

If anyone has any questions about the method let me know.

My exhaust manifolds were glowing until I removed my cat. I was blown away by the 50 or so HP that a clogged cat can rob you of.

But I should add that a clean cat is good for our breathing and doesn't hurt the cars breathing.

it will probably fight with you when you're trying to put the tranny back in. and you run the chance of damaging the seal.

Buddycraigg,

Yep If I had a hoist I would never change a clutch this way. I would definately drop the cradle. I'll get some help guiding that pass. axle in. Thanks for the heads up on the seal though. I wasn't really worried about it but I will take care now that you mentioned it.

Hudini,
I'm picking up a rear seal this morning when I get the clutch. Pretty bad leak. Get your new chip back from Darth yet?
