Well I have been working on this 4.9 install slowly family school and work hinder the project at times. so far I mounted the trans to the 4.9. the 4.9 has 25,000 miles on it so I saw no need to rebuild. the clutch and pressure plate was purchased through centerforce and the flywheel was purchased through WCF. I installed the fiero 4 speed manual on this with all new forks, release bearing and polished up the brass sleeves for the fork after pushing them out with the sleeve tool from rodney dickman. I used a dremel type tool with polishing wheel and cleaned the two sleeves to a nice shine and reinstalled. the fork moves smooth and easy now.
I also installed the Cadillac starter after I notched out the trans for it. I was looking at the allante starter but costs played a factor ( 45.00 vs 240.00)
I been wanting to do this myself. I am gonna go with the automatic if I do so though. I have read that 1st gear is just a waste of time and gas because of the great power and torque of the 4.9 Joe Texas

------------------ DONE: 86gt 5 speed 4.9 complete rebuild with buds outback northstar pistons , delta cams E303 cam , full ported , polished , stronger head springs, and flow tested heads and manifolds. rockcrawl's custom chip , polished crank . too much to list
Good to see that you got such a low mileage engine. That should last you for a long long time. Have you got to the wiring yet? Are you keeping the fuel injection, or going with a carb? I'm keeping mine with the fuel injection and mating it to the caddy's automatic. I'm at the wiring harness right now, but had to pull off for about a month. Sounds like the same as you, just not enough time to go around, but you'll get there, and there's a lot of info and help from a lot of guys on this forum.
Good luck and keep us posted on your progress. Nice to see another one getting done.

...did you buy the "Archie" V8 clutch - because if you bought just their standard clutch - it will not hold and Centerforce will do nothing about it since you bought the wrong clutch for the application - ask me how I know about this?
I run a Spec stage 3 and it has held up good for the last couple of years...

Wow I wasnt expecting to see so much input, so let me try and answer the questions. The wiring has not been purchased I was planning on getting it from Ed Parks and keeping the injection system in tack. The clutch I purchased is a heavy duty stage 3 that was recommended by fiero company in California due to the 4.9 and the manual trans. I see that the allante starter is cheaper than my initial research next time I will have to do a little more.
I will post as I go along here and once I figure out how to post pictures on the pages I will do so until them I will put links. I created the 4.9 mounts from 1/4" steel plate and welded them together I messed the first one up as the template was incorrect ( I welded the bracket on the wrong side) I still need to swap the valve covers and figure out what the heck is and is not needed on this engine as there are so many vacuum lines and stuff . I see some of your pictures on PFF and they look clean so I am not clear on what I should remove or not remove. Any suggestions and support would be great in any of these areas.
I have been buying bolts from Boltdepot.com as they have tons of metric bolts and the correct hardnesses.
I will discuss the cradle work a little later tonight but for the moment I was able to push all the cradle bushings out they did not come out easy, but I used a set of gear pullers to get them out since i did not have arbor or a press. I ordered the urythane bushings from prothane, but they indicate I need the metal sleeves from the original bushings ( I wish they would of said this earlier) So to compromise I purchased a 8 " piece of 2 1/4 "( I believe) exhaust pipe and cut them to length of the old sleeves and they were installed from the inner side of the cradle and I used a mallot to seat them in the right area and flared the ends of them to imitate the original ones I then installed the bushings they fit tight and well.
