Autozone can order the rebuild kit which includes everything except the syncros. So with Pontiacs syncros and Autozones kit. That should complete it for you.

tough to find stuff - but they gots it.
and, there really isnt much except the bearings & seals to replace. also - to do the bearings right, you need a special tool to be able to shim the bearings.

They don't have the rebuild kit for the 4 speeds only the Isuzu 5 spd and the Getrag 5 spd.

Thanks When I took the tranny out I found the problem! A chewed up clutch fork, my car likes to eat metal ! I replaced the fork and have given up on rebuilding the tranny, hoping to find a 5 speed getrag from a fiero but might have to settle for one out of a grand am when i am ready to make the swap. These must be the only tranny's in the world that cant be rebuilt, oh well I wanted a 5 speed anways. If any one knows where to get a fiero Getrag please let me know.
My old tranny is still holding on but dont know for how much longer. It is my every day driver and I am kinda rough on it, I like to tear up the streets and any good windy mountain road.

I think Checker can order the Bearings and shift forks, Pontiac has the syncros but I cant find any one who has the brass, someone could make some money if they could find all the pieces I'm shure there are probably a lot of fiero's out there that have tranny problems with the 4 speeds.

Just a friendly bump for ya, there has to be someone out there who knows where to buy parts for these things.

I thought the syncro's were brass? It's been a long time since I rebuilt a manual trans, but my memory tells me that the brass rings are the syncro's. I'll have to look at my factory service manual when I get home to look at the exploded view of the trans.

Have you considered just swapping out the whole tranny? A good used one is dirt cheap at the wrecking yard. I bought a 5-Speed Getrag recently for $80.

Just a thought.

the brass rings are not the actual synchro's - they are just "bushings"
the synchro is the actual part which slides back & forth, engaging the selected gear.
but, yes - these are another replaceable part, along with the seals & bearings.

anyways - go to your local trans shop, and ask them.

Is it the blocking rings that you are looking for? If so they aren't brass, they are steel that are coated with a bronze coating.

PN:14079923 $77.78 from monsterpartsonline.com

I was always told they were called syncronizer rings, guess I was told wrong .. LOL

I'm reading the parts manual and can't make out the PN for the actual syncronizer assy. It looks like:

1st and 2nd sync assy: PN:14085536
3rd and 4th sync assy: PN:14085537

But I can't get any prices to come up for either of those numbers.

hope this helps

Every single bearing and race ( except for the input shaft bearing ) are standard wheel bearings and are off the shelf parts at AutoZone and the like, even the part numbers on the bearings and races will work in thier parts catalog.

Yeah, the bearings aren't the problem, it's everything else that is next to impossible to find for these transmissions.

I want to get EVERY single internal part of my 3.65 muncie cryo'd, BUT I don't know what all is in there. The Autozone and GM parts direct sites aren't descriptive at all. Is there anybody that can list ALL the internal parts or know of a kit that has all the parts? If tranny shops can get these parts why can't we?

When gears let loose and shoot through the case what is supposed to hold them in their or the name of the parts that usually fail?

I'm not sure that tranny shops can get these parts either. I've called many trans shops and I am coming up empty on a lot of parts. These transmissions were only made for 5 years, so there just isn't much out there for support.

Attached below are some exploded parts list of the 4 spd muncie. The first two pictures are from the 84 factory service manual, the last three are from the 84 - 88 Fiero Parts Book.

Thanks for the pages, but those are 84 4spds.

MORE BAD NEWS.....the Chevy dealer told me that they don't carry ANY Fiero parts. So now what?

It almost seems more beneficial to just do a damn getrag swap because more people offer **** for them.

The internals are the same between the 84 and 85, the only thing that should be different is the case (reinforced in 85) and the ring and pinion gear ratio.

give me a minute and I'll scan the 85 4 spd parts book section. And you can compare them.

Don't tell them what it's for just give them the part number. Or you can tell them it's for a Citation they used the same transmissions as well.

The below images are for 85-86 Muncie 4spd taken from the Fiero parts book
