how do i set the cables, i replaced the trans yesturday and i ahd to reuse the old ballstuds that the cable snaps on to. My question is how do i deterim where they need to be set at. is there a procedure or jusst mess with it till im happy.

its 85 2.8l with a 4 speed

Put the tranny in first gear.
loosen the adjustment bolts at the tranny
now look at your shifter, put it in first gear and look at the front left part of the shifter. There are two holes that line up when you have it where it needs to be for first.
Put a rod in the holes and then tighten the adjustment bolts and your done.
