I think it;s some sensor but the engine when in 4th or 5th gear below 2000 rpm runs like it isn't getting enough fuel. The exhaust smells very rich though and there is alot of carbon deposits on the spark plugs. Please Help

If that doesn`t work, check your 02 sensor.....

I thought about both of those is there any way of checking without buying a new one.

The best would be to use Winaldl and log the sensor reading up and down the range.

Could use a volt meter but would take some help so someone could take readings while you drive.
Need to take the reading under load to see full range values.
