GM part number is 17111725 - for a 1991 GMC Sonoma w/ the 2.8L engine code "R"

It looks identical to the V6 Fiero TPS(GM p/n 10106063) which is no longer in production.

I haven't verified compatibility yet but I will stop by at a parts store this weekend to see for myself.

$31.73 at www.ac-direct.com - MUCH cheaper than aftermarket to boot.

I dunno, that may not be the correct picture. I have a 1991 S-10 with the same 2.8 engine (same vehicle as the Sonoma) and it uses the newer "P-shaped" TPS like most other newer GM cars.

There was a running change in the 91 model year. The earlier 1991s use "our" TPS while the later ones(such as yours) use the later style(the part number for the later style is 17112679). Here are the list of cars that use the old-style TPS(borrowed from the ACDelco.com website):

1991 CHEVROLET S10 PICKUP V6 2.8L 173cid GAS FI N Engine VIN = R
1991 GMC SONOMA V6 2.8L 173cid GAS FI N Engine VIN = R
1990 CHEVROLET S10 PICKUP V6 2.8L 173cid GAS FI N Engine VIN = R
1990 GMC S15 PICKUP V6 2.8L 173cid GAS FI N Engine VIN = R
1987 CHEVROLET S10 BLAZER V6 2.8L 173cid GAS FI N Engine VIN = R
1987 CHEVROLET S10 PICKUP V6 2.8L 173cid GAS FI N Engine VIN = R
1987 GMC S15 JIMMY V6 2.8L 173cid GAS FI N Engine VIN = R
1987 GMC S15 PICKUP V6 2.8L 173cid GAS FI N Engine VIN = R
1986 CHEVROLET S10 BLAZER V6 2.8L 173cid GAS FI N Engine VIN = R
1986 CHEVROLET S10 PICKUP V6 2.8L 173cid GAS FI N Engine VIN = R
1986 GMC S15 JIMMY V6 2.8L 173cid GAS FI N Engine VIN = R

I ordered the part to see for myself.

It does physically bolt onto the Fiero throttle body and plugs into the Fiero TPS harness, but the GMC TPS has elongated holes for the screws that mount the TPS to the throttle body. You will have to adjust the TPS afterwards otherwise it will likely set a code for high or low TPS voltage. Since the Fiero TPS is non-adjustable and is pretty much plug and play, I am not sure if the $15-20 you'd save by using this one is worth the hassle.

I've always heard that the Fiero TPS should be adjusted by bending the 'tang' that moves the wiper arm.

Raydar, that would certainly work(but it's kind of low-tech)... I guess the GMC one is simply an adjustable TPS available from GM.

Here is also a brief explanation from the NIFE web page: http://www.fierofocus.com/articles/tt-cs_misc.html

I don't think you have to adjust the TPS on the 88 V6 though. You disconnect the battery and the let the
ECM relearn the initial setting.
