ive had my daily driver for over 3 years (86seV6 auto)
ever since i got it, sometimes not all the time if you go to take off normal (not floored) from a stop rthe car will like bog and cut out for a sec. then it will go like it should, but i dont notice this if i take off hard from a stop only if i take off slow or moderate
the car is in good tune, and runs great gets about 18MPG in town
and has been doing this since i fot it 3 years ago, i get NO trouble codes, and everything else seems fine, i have looked pretty throughly for vac leaks and im kinda clueless, only thought is when i remove the distribuitor cap ithe metal prong thingys (sorry im at a loss as to what they are called)
the inside of the distribuiter seems kinda rusty, but otherwise the car in general is in real good tune
good brass cap, roter, good wires NGK-UR5 gapped at .045 might switch to delco's i have them just not installed yet)
new bosh 02, new delco ign module, new MSD stock replacment blaster coil, ported manifolds, no cat, CRX intake, new ocelot exhaust,
the list goes on,

but the car is in great running order i just cant track this damn part time hesitation/dieng out, it dosent die it keeps running, but it just wont go for a sec or 2 but then it will all of a sudden go like normal

follow me on what im trying to say?

any ideas?

Me too, me too...

Purple Reign is thinking fuel delivery... either pump, filter or dirty injectors...

I just wonder why only off idle when at highway speeds the engine runs evenly... maybe the injectors are dirty... I would love to take em out and send them to Cruzin Performance.

im thinking against the FP because its been doing it for 3 years and about 40K miles so the FP woulda went out by now if it was flakey for that long

i have run multiple bottles of marvel mystery oil and seafoam and injector cleaner through my motor in the 3 years ive had the car with NO change in my hesitation what so ever, so im kinda leaning against the injectors too, But....
i have a spare set of injectors from a 2.8 or 3.1 baretta, how much would it cost me to send them out and get the cleaned and be sure they were good before i installed them?

Rich, I just recently replaced my TPS to fix just such a problem. It was not throwing any codes but had a dead spot just off idle. I noticed that my scanner was showing no change in TPS readings until the Throttle had been rotated several degrees. You might test you TPS to make sure it's allowing a smooth transition across it's movement

yup - what I was gonna say too. but, testing my TPS with a ohmmeter didnt show it as bad. but, replacing it sure did help ALOT.

I have been battling the same frustration. I am not certain, but it seems that after the car gets up to operating temps/closed loop, the problem goes away or is not as noticeable.

Hi, Going through this too, I replaced the MAP, TPS, plugs & wires, cleaned the TB, found a couple of things going on, it may or may not pertain to your problem, I found arching from the spark plug shields where causing some of it, re-set ==adanced the timing from 10 degees from TDC to 12 degrees helped out, the biggie that I didn`t find out until yesterday, was I pulled all the plugs when the car had set for 24 hrs ==cold, my # 2 plug was gas soaked, the whole time since rebuild about 3 months ago the car would act up sometimes , then not. Apperently just enough gas is leaking from the bad # 2 injector to make the engine hesitate, and then burn it-self off, then it would run correctly. The injector is getting worse===needs replaced. The service manual suggested that the MAP has something to do with fuel delivery, I did notice that the hesitation dissapeared after replacing it. Alot of posts have been on this subject, I`d like to hear more--your right it is annoying.....Hope this helps some......

I’ve noticed this same issue in most of my other cars (I don’t drive my Fieros much so I can’t really tell in them). In my 99 Silverado it’s the worst but that is my daily driver. I did notice 2 things, it seems to be worse right after I fill it up with fuel and it differs at different gas stations. I believe that they are watering down the fuel. Try getting gas a few different stations and see if you notice any change.

That would go along with a Purple Reign's theory about fuel delivery being the problem. I really want to send my injectors out to Cruzin' Performance but I have not the time or money to do so at this moment. I am getty my exhaust fixed today and I am hoping that it helps a little... just a bad muffler... but hopefully it will allow me to hear the motor better... Keep the suggestions coming! This is a great thread!

Yep, My wife said I was nuts, everytime I would add gas , the problem got worse, and I live in Ohio too............I`ll try some 93 octane from Shell......They closed all the BPs in my area ???
