http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7976138100&category=33742 I was wondering if this turbo would work with a 2.8, or if its to small? If so what would it start spooling at, and what RPM would it be at full boost if im running 8- 10psi of boost?

The stock Volvo 740 put out about 160 hp. This turbo was made for that amount of air. Compressor maps are read in horsepower wich is a direct relation to the amount of air they can push. What I am getting at is this turbo would spool at about 1800 RPM's but would be too small for more than about 5psi. wich might net you 170-180 at the flywheel. Fun for stop light to stop light but not much more.

My first DIY turbocharger installation used the Garrett T-3 from the turbo Mustang/Cougar./T-Bird 2.3L and I was able to easily get 10 psi of boost from it. CHeck the compressor and turbine A/R ratios and go from there.

I happen to have amongst other things a 1987 Volvo 740 Turbo with the stock TDO5 turbo (which I think is trimmed similarly). On the Volvo 2.3, the turbo spools up at like EXACTLY 2000 RPM and will push 11+ psi into the engine despite the large intercooler's pressure drop, though I can't say how efficiently it's doing it. If the Volvo engine is smaller, but has a higher volumetric efficiency (OHC) and revs 500 RPM higher, it may be close to appropriately sized for the task at hand.

Since my Volvo's rear main leaks, I have been considering putting a 2.8 MPFI with a Camaro/Firebird V6 T5 into it with the 2.3's turbo, megasquirted, since many of my colleauges are having success with the unit, even on a 550cc motorcycle.

A garret T3 With a .63 A/R exhaust side and a . 63/ cold side (84-86 300ZX) would be good to about 15-17psi spool @ 2400 rpm and be good to 200ish WHP

I use a T3 / T4 on my truck W/ a .82 exhaust side W/ a stage III wheel and a .60 V trim T4 cold side. good to 20ish PSI and 450 WHP

I pull up some compressor maps in a few min .

here is a2.3 for map

here is a 3.0L 300zx map

here is my custom T3 / T4 map

Any Garrett .63 T3 will work well with engines up to and including the 2.8 liter........3 Liter to 4 liter requires the .83 T3 model.......hope that helps. BTW.....you canfind the .63 T3 on old turbo charged chrycos like the lebaron, and on old ford 4 cylinders with turbos like the escort gt.
