Let me guess these studs are welded in? my dad was talking about making a plate. I'm trying to make it at best so the sits don't sit any higher.

Yes, they are welded in. If yours are broke, grind them flat. Drill a hold and come up from the bottom with a new bolt.

I take it you're installing aftermarket seats?

When I installed the racing buckets in my Fiero, I first tried using the stock rails with adaptor plates. The plates were only 1/8" thick (aluminum), but the seats ended up over an inch higher than stock. The seat backs are taller than stock, also. The end result? The tops of the seats were grazing the headliner. So I ended up using the rails that came with the seats (which have a lower profile) and making brackets to mount the rails to the floor. I was able to drop the seats about an inch.

Of course, your mileage may vary.

Here are some pics of rails I made to install 94 Satrun seats in
my 86 Notchy.

I first made a template with a piece of paneling to get stud locations.
With the template in place I set the seat in position and marked the
bolt holes. I used the template to determine the rail size and hole locations.
The rails are made from 3/16" x 1 1/4" cold rolled steel. I welded in 5/16" x
1" bolts as studs for the Saty seats.
