Ok,
we have the 4.9/4t60e in but have not been able to find the correct passenger side axle. I see where many people have had the same problem.
We need an answer from someone who has this setup--not a lot of hearsay and rhetoric please. We have already tried the passenger side pont 6000-light duty brakes-no abs----this axle appears to be about an inch too long.
Does anyone know for sure which one fits and works??
Thank you Jeff

do you have to dissasemble this axle? because we bought a fiero lhs manual tranny axle and it had a female end on it---it should be male---so we returned that one and got a pont 6000 passenger side---it's too long.
Thanks for your help

It doesn't matter if the part that plugs into the tranny is male or female because on the driver side it will have a female on the end witch is the wrong thing I believe that is the part we change for the caddy tripod.... The only thing is we need to make sure the manuel fiero tripod mount axle is the same size as the caddy.

since we are using left hand side axles on both sides---it would make sense that one of them turns out to have the wrong end on it---

We just finished doing the 3100/4T60E, and if you are sure of these facts:
a) You have the transmission in the same left to right orientation as factory (referencing the bellhousing face)
b) You have the 4T60E (not the 4T440 or 4T65E)
c) You are using an 84-87 cradle
then you can use what we did:

Passenger's (RIGHT-HAND!) side 1994 Grand Prix 4T60E axle and inner joint with a 1994 Beretta 4T60E outer joint with the ABS ring knocked off. The GP axle itself will work with the Beretta boot and has the same spline as the Beretta's joint. This setup is the perfect length (what GM would have done) and works great (as attested to by the two 215mm wide patches of sod which were swiftly removed from Andy's sister's yard by the recently completed conversion.)

Sounds like you need a left axle on the right (pasenger side). For further reading try here, and scroll down to the bottom of the web page when you get there (as PBJ says).

hmmmm---this seems to make perfect sense the more I think about it
lhs pont 6000 axle and a lhs manual fiero axle----both lhs axles--then of course one of them will have the wrong end on it.
SO what is the easiest fix for this problem??

MALE on both sides. That's why I thought you had an auto axle by mistake.

Just got off the phone with the guy at Autozone
He swears up down and sideways that the lhs (drivers side) axle for a manual tran fiero autozone part number 8437 has a female end on it's tripot.
And that is what the sold us and we returned.

Question...is the 4T60E in the same (laterally) location as the TH-125? I seem to recall on the earlier cradles (pre-88) the 4T60E has to be mounted slightly to the left...

Okay, here's what I did. I used the FACTORY driver's side axle from my 86GT...it HAS to be the FACTORY axle...any OEM (8437) WILL NOT WORK...believe me...it's too short!!! Here's how I found out...I had everything together and running great when I accidentally nicked the inner cv boot! aarrgghhh! I thought that i had better replace the whole axle since it was the original axle...went to AutoZone and picked up part#8437...way too short. Got my core back (luckily) and took it to get rebuilt...bad move...they replaced the shaft too...the used the wrong length...too short!! aaarrrgghhh!! Took it back and told them that they shortened the axle by about 3/4"...they said they never replaced the shaft...WRONG...I showed them pics of the axle before I took it to them and showed that the new shaft had score marks on it where mine had none. Anyway, I left there and took it to a guy who rebuilt the axle putting back the 3/4" length (he used a Monte Carlo??) shaft and Voila! Success, finally. I would try to find a factory 84-86 driver's side manual trans. axle and have it rebuilt to the same exact specs and DON'T let them swap the shaft!!! Good Luck!

Kento,
I just hope that they are the correct length----reading some of the posts above---if they are not original gm blah blah blah-----like gm makes their own axles.
But like I said, I hope 8437 will be long enough.
