It's final! Getting power from a duke is like hitting myself with a hammer, nothing but pain. Iwant to keep my 4spd. Any suggestions on a motor swap? Does the 3.8 bolt to the trans? How about a caddy 4.5/4.9? Anyone know about the weights of these motors verses the 2.5?

Lots of topics covering this in the archives. Try doing a search.

I'm in the same boat. I've been wanting to do a 4.9, but have been a little concerned about the difficulties/cost of rebuilding one. The 3.4 DOHC and SC 3.8 are next on my list. There's lots of informtion in our archive, go check it out!

Ever considered the Quad 4 or 2.2L? Your handling wouldn't have to suffer and you could always go turbo.

If you go with a 4.9l V8 your handling will not suffer either. They weigh within 10lb's of the Stock V6!

If you do decide go with a Quad, your stock 4 speed tranny will not match.

The V6 is heavier than the duke and makes a difference though.

Yes I'm Rob @midas in San Angelo.

I do want to keep the 4spd so I guess the Quad won't git-r-dun.

Does that caddy 4.5/4.9 bolt to the trans? I got a line on a couple of different caddy motors I could have for cheap(maybe free)

Rob, You should have bought the 88 that was (may still be) for sale just south of ave N on S. Harrison. 4cyl, 5 spd. Needs clutch, paint, right window, interior work.
$400.
