Hey everyone,

I currently live in Michigan but want to move back to Cali. I am doing a V8 swap in my 85 SE and want to ensure it is already smog legal once I get back there.
Here's what it was:

85 SE with IAC, EGR, PVC, oxy sensor, throtle position sensor, 4 cyl

Hers what is going in:

305 with a TPI from an 88 Z28 with: IAC, EGR, PVC, oxy sensor. throtle position sensor, smog pump, mas air flow sensor, 8 cyl

What I want to know is if I swithc it over to speed density, will the referies be able to tell from the numbers on the block that it is from an 88 car and had a smog pump, MAF sensor and make me convert it over.

The motor was bought in Cali and my Fiero is a cali car originally (I used to live there in Rancho Cordova).

Should I go ahead and buy the and buy the painless MAF harness an be safe or buy the speed density harness?

Thanks for your input.

i think someone (TK perhaps) has said, tell them a believable story and they will bite, but don't make them lie for you or fudge things (they won't).

if everything matches up correctly for a 90-92 speed density setup, then odds are they won't check the block for a vin or date/time stamp. (if concerned, just wipe the stamps out).

If you are going to tell them it's a 90-92 speed density motor, make it believable - use the right TPI intake (no cold start injector), have some documentation as to what is correct for a 90-92 SD motor, the supposed VIN the drivetrain came from, etc. since mechanically you can make it the same, you shoudln't have any problems.

also, refer here for top notch info:

Nic2x88,

Thanks alot. That sounds doable, especially about the cold start injector (didnt even think about that).
