I am looking for a starter for my DOHC 3.4, someone mentioned that "any" old starter for a 2.5, 2.8, 3.1 etc... will work, is that true

I have been checking part numbers, and i see that they are different, what gives....

I used my 2.8 starter on my '91 TDC. It worked becuase I relocated the coil packs, otherwise the starter solenoid would hit them.

The starter from my 2.5 would NOT fit. The solenoid was just a tad too big. Cannot remember what it hit but there was a problem.

I used any old starter that worked. 2.5 2.8 3.1.... I didnt have a problem with the solenoid being too big. just give one a shot, If it fits, it will work.

qwik...

Since I started you on this wild goose chase, I'll speak up.

I have heard of people on this forum using a 2.5 starter on a 2.8.
I also figured that the 3.4 TDC block was essentially the same as the 2.8 in this regard. They were all kind of based on similar castings.
That's where my statement came from. I apologize for the confusion.
