just a quick question;

I recently acquired a set of doors from an 86 that had power windows. I have an 85 SE with manual windows. Does anyone have the wiring diagrams for the power window circuit? just wondering, as the last time I was in the center console of my 85, I noticed two connectors that looked like they were for power windows, but I'm not sure if I have the rest of the harness (leading to the doors). That way, I can look at wiring them in myself & not have to worry about trying to get a harness at an auction site, or trying to find one at a scrap yard.

Thanks.

The wiring harness for the windows are a seperate feed that plugs into your harness . If you have that that connectors under your console will be big. Dont mistake them for the lights. I can scan you incopy of the wiring diagram but Id rather email it to you, because of the size versues clarity.
here is a sample of it. john

Bad luck dude. 85 models were not prewired for pw. That means you're going to have to run all the wiring from the door....thru the rocker kick panel.......thru the dash and into the console. Not an easy job. Unfortunate that it's not an 86 cause they were prewired for pw. Good luck. fI've got a GM wiring schematic I can email if you need it. Let me know.

I was just working on the wiring in my 86 and it was -not- prewired for power windows. That's a separate harness...

Yep, the power window wiring is a seperate harness from the interior harness. They window wiring only came in pwr window equipped cars.

Find the cross car window harness, and it will be a plug and play operation.

Im doing the same thing on my 85 SE ....Do we need a relay?Would I be able to get the wiring info too?Please....
Also,I have powered the glass up and down by switching the wires back and forth so how does that work?Does the switch do that or is that the job of a relay?Can you explain this?
Thanks....

There is no relay for the power windows, the switchs do the reversing of power.

Putting power doors on was a much larger job than I had anticipated. Good luck and make sure you ground the passenger side ground real good or you'll run into weird problems.

ok...dumb question coming up...I noticed that when I got the doors, there were two connectors on the door; a big rectangular connector & a small rounded connector. I assume the big connector was for the windows, but what was the other connector for? the donor car did not have pwr locks or mirrors. If they are for the ajar switch, is it possible to modify the 86 harness to retrofit it into an 85 chassis?
