i think on some of the later models there was a fan in the trunk to cool the alternator and such.
there has been some talk of fans on the deck vents to draw cool air into the compartment, i think there have been a couple of sets installed by members.

its an electric motor that turns on when you turn the a/c on. it blows air onto the coil and onto the alt. i think its below one of the "shelves" in the trunk on the right side.

85-87 V6 Fieros have a cooling fan in the trunk on the right side that blows are out them metal tubes in the engine bay that are pointed towards the coil and alternator. Didnt really do much so in 88 they did away with it.
Some people have installed small fans on the underside of the decklid vent to draw OUT hot air also

What GT said is true. But they did away with it in 88 when they switched to the CS alternator from the SI. The CS has a cooling fan on the pulley.......Paul

Yeah, that blower only comes on when the cooling fan comes on, but unless you're sitting in heavy traffic it doesn't come on that often.. (or after doing my exhaust, adding a chip, an MSD coil with the Crane 2030, it doesn't heat up at all)

I have both the stock blower fan and also added a 10" thin-line fan to the left vent grate. It is wired to come on any time the key is on. I have found that it must do something because before I put this fan on, the back window would get very warm to the touch and now it just gets luke-warm. Even though I have a 3800 turbo, I strongly suggest anyone running a modded Fiero use one. Getting rid of a little extra heat never hurt anything.
If you decide to install your own grate-vent fan, be sure to configure it so it takes air from the engine compartment and blows it up and out. Because of the aerodynamic nature of the Fiero, there is a low pressure area that forms behind the back window when the car is in motion so you don't want to fight the natural tendancy of air from the engine compartment trying to come out the top of the grate while going down the road.

Do you guys have any pictures of the fan in grill area? Sounds interesting!
Hey Gary, this is the best picture I could find. I have lightened it to try to better show the fan. The fan used is your typical aftermarket, thin-line 10" electric fan. My stock grates had some guards riveted to the underside that I removed and then attached the fan using some of the rivet bosses and screws that come in from the front of the grate.
Next time I get a chance I will try to get some better pics of the fan off the car so you can see how it is mounted.

They also blow snow real well into the engine bay...(ok I was having fun before the salt truck came) If you dont pull the fuse for the fans during cold weather. Summer.....Low temp switch and 190* stat has yet to overheat..even stuck in Yankee game traffic in Aug. IN airplanes we frequently have cool air scat blowing directly into the alt or gen. They last much longer...cars ditto my 2 cents Red

hi russ544 is that fan located where the bat used to be, and how did you route the air flow outside the body.thanks....
Yes. it is located where the battery used to be. I'm building side vents similar looking to Madcurls, but much of the cool air already comes up from underneath. If you stick your hand under the car in front of the inner wheel well liner you'll find a large opening there. Behind the stock battery box you'll see a (factory) hole in that panel. I just enlarged that area for the fans intake. BTW: there were other photos here as well: https://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum1/HTML/034980.html
