i have a 2.8 block, with a "freeze plug" type thing in the mechanical fuel pump hole. the problem is, i am having it machined to be ready for the 3.1 stroker kit. i just noticed on the 3.1 page, that it must be a mid85 or newer block to use the kit. can it be assumed that since it has a block off on the mechanical fuel pump hole that it is a fuel injection engine from? that would automatically make it newer that mid 85 wouldnt it since they didnt use the fuel injection before then?

EDIT Just called the shop where the block is at and asked them, they said since it has a one piece rear main seal, its a second generation 2.8 block and should be find to use with the 3.1 kit. they said the difference was in the size of the main journals and the one piece rear main seal has the larger journals and will work fine with the 3.1 crank. is this correct as well?

There is a retro fit kit for the single piece seal to the pre 85 block.

Measure the crank journals and see if it is the large journal (67mm VS 63mm). that way you are sure.

You want the large journal. The 3.1 crank will not fit in the small journal block.

Yes, that's correct.
