Can I hook up a laptop to the 4.9 ecm(2240 ecm) and scan my codes and fix things with WinALDL???

I wouldn't count on it. A lot of the "real" scantools don't work on a 4.9.

WinALDL is specifically for the older GM "160 baud" ECMs, like the Fiero V6 ECMs. The caddy ECM is much newer and faster, and completely different. WinALDL won't work with the Fiero DIS ECM either, for that matter, and it's an 8192 baud ECM.

So what do you do if you want to scan for engine codes? What software could you use with it?
