I know that the 3.4 is almost as easy, lots better, etc. but I can't find one local. I did find a 3.1.

Is it the same swap as the 3.4, i.e. intake, exhaust, distributor - how about engine mounts?

Is '94 Lumina minivan OK?

It would be the same as the other alluminum head 2.8, 3.1, 3.4 fwd as far as the swap goes. Pretty straight forward.

so a '94 Lumina Mini van is an aluminium head engine? Sounds like it will be a pain!

The '94 Lumina APV 3.1 is an iron head engine. So swapping will be the same as a 3.4L. From an F-body, except for the need to re-drill the starter holes.

Sure about that?
I was under the impression that they switched to aluminum heads before that.

In any event, the easiest way to tell is to look at the exhaust manifolds and spark plugs.
The iron head engines have two spark plugs between two of the exhaust ports.
The aluminum head engines have exhaust ports and spark plugs laid out in order.
Does that make sense?

No, because that is not correct, the "order of spark plugs and exhaust ports is the same between iron heads and aluminium heads.

Also, yes I am VERY sure about the Lumina APV have iron heads, it was the only '90s transverse vehicle to use an iron head 660. The minivans were upgraded to aluminum heads in '96 with the introduction of the 3400 in the Montana.
