I'm in the process of deciding an engine and I ran across a friend with a Runnin SBC 400 stock bore stock everything for $200, but I'm worried about the increased torque with the fiero trannies, talked to edelbrock and he said a 406 with edelbrock Performer RPM kit should get anywhere from 450/475 Hp/TQ on 9:1 C/R any idea's?

A stock 400 SBC is not going to turn that amount of power in that configuration even with a hi rise manifold unless you are going to upgrade but it has enough power to get you running strong your tranny will hold up as long as you are not abusing it also for that price grab it they also have a tendancy to run a little warm get a 4 core radiator.

I assume the Edelbrock kit is the heads, cam, intake type deal.

Too much is really up to you. I wanted Proven power, reliability and Drivability. I got what I want. Just how much do you want? oh, and get a really good clutch.

I'd pick up the block just because it sounds like its a good deal. One bad thing abouta stock 400 crank is that its external balanced. You'll have to have it balanced to your flywheel and balancer. Which can get expensive because of the amount of malory metal needed to get it balanced.

Considering the very limited space in the engine compartment and then the 400 ...

That's gonna add some $$$
Clutch to hold torque $$
Improving the cooling $$

Personally I'd like to see it, but your talking some serious $$$ to get the baby on the road.
