how do you take these off? Are they just on there by the double sided tape like GTs are?

No; it's a bit more work... or less!

You have to take the seatbelt anchors off the roof pillars, then pull the plastic surrounds (with the speakers, in later years) away from the body. There's at least one nut, 10mm hex, I believe, at the top and bottom of the leading edges. (Careful not to drop nut or socket in the body!). The rear edge is held by a kinda screw-like thingie into a clip. It just pulls away.

You need to remove the inside panel. A little higher than the door edge is a hole that has an 11mm stamped nut on a plastic stud inside it. You need a flashlight to see it. It's about even with the Pontiac crest on the outside. Unbolt the nut. The trailing edge has 3 serrated studs that push/pull into nylon clips. Just carefully pull and it's off.

If your replacing them with stock, The 1984's are glass. 1985-1988 are plastic.
