I was wondering if it would be alright for me to tear out all of the insulation in the engine bay and firewall. We have the engine out already and I've noticed people doing this and it looks really nice and clean. It must be there for a purpose and this is my only guess, to keep the heat off out of the cab and to keep the engine warm (because we all know how our fieros like to be warm =) ).

Thanks for your time.

The purpose is not only for heat but noise also.
If it's not really in bad shape......I'd leave it...or as long as you have the engine out, you might think about replacing it with "new"
The heat from a engine can warm up the inside of your car pretty good.

Good Luck,
Michael

Wow. You two responded quick. Nice to have this 24 hour tech support forum =P. I'll probably rip it out because I like working in a clean engine bay and I need to shave some time off my 1/4 mile =).
Thanks guys.

On most fieros the side engine bay insulation gets torn up from working around the engine, or it starts to decay. I noticed the firewall insulation is normally in good shape though.

On my fiero I took the side insulation off and left the firewall on. It cleans up the engine bay a bit and still does its job this way.
