I was driving on the highway in my 85 GT. All of a sudden i loose almost all the power and it sputtering and popping out the exhaust. I pulled over, shut it off, restarted it, then it was fine. It has done this 3 times today. I am not sure what it is, might it be the ignition module going out? Hope someone can help.
Thanks, Matt

I HAVE seen ign modules act like this, although it's not common. Most likely you'll find it when the component fails completely.

I took off the dist. cap. There is a ring inside the cap, looks like rust and water the came off the pick-up coil. I am going to pull the dist and replace the pick-up. Hope that works.

I would be on the expressway when the engine would lose power as if the key was turned off, then 2 or 3 seconds later a loud KABLAM with a flash of light from the back of the car. It was quite spectacular at night. I remember one time the car next to me hitting his brakes hard. I wonder what he thought?

It happened when the engine got fully heated.
It began happening more often and at lower temps. A new ignition module fixed it.

Thats almost exactly what mine did. I am going to put in a new module when i swap that ugly rusty pick-up coil.

Thanks, Matt
