Well is that a Ford? Unless you mistyped it and meant 3.1, get rid of the car, cause all of those ford auto tranies are doomed to fail. AOXD I believe.

It could be the imput spline if it is a ford. During that era, Ford beter ideas was less weight = better economy. They had very light, small, thin splines on the imput shaft and they would strip at about 100k - 110k. Had the same thing happen to my wifes old escort. If it is not a Ford, NM

Anything is repairable. FWD trannies are a bit more work than RWD to rebuild. The pump is the front cover on trannies, so it would be easily accessible. I would rather buy a used one that works than to rebuild a FWD tranny. You need many tools and the help of an expert.

Just a little bit of Fiberglass, and your tranny should be better than new!

Good luck!

autos use the same clutch pack for 1st and reverse, a band locks down on to the outer side of a drum to change the rotation of the planitery gears.

buddy <--- worked at tranny shop till a DWI caused him to get the boot.

if the pump whent out than you may have over heat our trans. and that is what killes them .you can fix anything BUT if haven't work on fwd auto tran you should get a pro to help OR DO it they are a pain in the ass and you need some weird tools too. i took a A.S.E. auto tran class where we did rebuild a tran in 20-30 hours the first time with a press .dodge part are VERY HIGH PRICED!

An AOD has a reverse band and a drive band; what does the drive band do then?

And is there a "band camp" you go to to learn stuff like this?

See... What I don't understand is:
1)
When you burn up a Auto tranny, the fluid SMALL'S burnt, RIGHT?? I mean if it got overheated would it smell burnt??
2)
It NEVER slipped, Just when I was driving 45mph down the street it felt EXACTLY like it jumped out of gear into Nuetral... I mean there was nothing. I parked the car and looked at it and about 10 minutes later I tried it again and it WAS FINE for about 15-20 minutes of in town driving(stop's-redlights, etc.) Then it felt like it went back to Nuetral... Now NOTHING..
3) The tranny fluid smells NEW as can be... Thats what is killing me and making me think it's NOT BURNT UP(the bands, etc.)

I hope that this clear's it up for ya'll to help me figure this out. My daughter had to stay home from school and I missed work... What am I going to do for tomorrow..
