Basically, the series 3 engines would be ideal but good luck finding one at an affordible price. As far as the series 2 engines are concerned I have heard that the 98 and up versions have a little more durable cylinder head casting compared to the 96's and 97's. Stay away from the pre-96 series 1 engines unless you can get a low mile one really cheap; not many aftermarket parts available for these early ones.
