Does the ignition module cause the dist. to spark or regulate it-
In other words, would a car with a bad ignition mod. still allow for a good spark?

The ignition module causes the distributor to spark. So a bad IM would give you a weak or no spark. That being said, a IM can fail intermittently. So it could be bad, but when the car is cool, it acts fine and you get a good spark.

this car couldn't get any colder - it is totally dead - but is getting good spark

What is the problem that you are having? Will it not start at all?
