For those who have used Rodney's aluminum replacement bushing for an 87 or older steering rack:

How hard was the job and how long did it take?

Did you have to dissemble the entire rack to get to the bushing or just remove the inner tie rod end?

Any special tips?

I'm on a mission to rid myself of a front end vibration before the 2400 mile Florida-Michagan-Florida trip and have LOTS to do and only a little time. I've already found that I have an bad NEW right fornt tire. Anyone have a good 215/60R-15 Falken 502 tire they want to sell?

Thanks,

So, from the discussion in the other thread I'm taking it that the rack has to be completely dissembled so the bushing can be either: Knocked out from
the other end using a long shaft like a drift punch or; using a small finger puller.

Additionally, A new pinion bearing seal is needed and it's part number is: GM 7829755. I wonder if my local bearing and seal distributer can match it with someting off the shelf.

Sound right?

yep you got it.

i have heard that the later years didn't have a c clip holding the bushing in.

the one in my 84 was aluminum and in almost new shape, so i'm pretty sure that it had been replaced before.
