Here is how NOT to disassemble your isuzu trans.
Start by breaking it so you have a reason to take it apart.
This is the trans from my fiero with all the brackets from the replacement trans on it.
Take the fifth gear cover off and you will see the lock nuts on the end of the shafts that hold fifth gear on.
They have a collar that is crimped into the keyways to lock the nut.
Since I don't care about this trans I used a cutoff wheel to remove the nuts.
Put the trans into one of the first four gears and remove the shifter assembly .
Remove the fifth gear shifter pin and push down on the aluminum fork to engage fifth gear.
Now it is locked into two gears at the same time so you can remove the nuts.
Once the fifth gears are off remove the shifter detents and reverse light switch.
Then remove the reverse shaft support bolt.
Split the case ans enjoy the view. Notice the aluminum 1-2 shifter fork.
Here is what I found. Not as bad as I thought, but still toasted.
Of course assembly is the reverse of this procedure.
Good luck getting those two lock nuts from coming loose, I had to use loctite.
The nuts are available from GM.
