The 3.8 was GMs front wheel drive engine and will not bolt up to the Fiero trans however the 3800 will.

3.8 is total crap although built on the same engine profile as the 3800.

The 3.8 has only 150 hp, very poor oiling system and an even worse timing system issues.

The 3800 and 3800SC are damn near indestructable as well as maintained properly Either of these engines makes for a great swap. I'd prob rather have the 2.8 in there before I switched to a basic 3.8.
Hope this helps.

Phil

Cool, thanks. Is the supercharger a direct bolt-on, or should I try to find a 3800 with the supercharger already on it. I have a supercharger already from a wrecked bonneville, should I sell it and put that $ toward a 3800SC???

Gee, you learn something new everyday on here. I didn't know GM had 2 different versions. I thought 3.8 was stating the engine displacement in Liters and 3800 is in CC's. Like 350 and 5.7? So the 3800 S/C in my kit car is not a 3.8 S/C?

Correct you need to change your name to GT40 Kit 3800SC since you do not have a 3.8 in your car. Not sure why GM did it this way but it does simplify understanding which engine is being discussed.

The 3.8 is an off center engine and the 3800 is an on center engine.By offcenter they mean the rod is not centered in the piston on the wrist pin,it is offset by(I think).060".The 3800 is on center, meaning the rod is centered on the wrist pin as in regular conventional engines.
