Hello!
My name is Charles, I live in Sweden and just bought myself a Fiero 2m6 SE '86. A lovely gold-met.one.Now, I have a problem that I'm wondering if any one out there can help me with. Here in Sweden i'll not get the car approved by our DMV, since the turn signals at the rear is red instead of yellow/orange. Is there any where one can buy yellow/orange turnsignals for the rear? This is a notchback, and I know the fastbacks had non-red turn signals when delivered here in Sweden. Well, Im gotting to paste som really ugly ones to the rear bumper for now, so I get the car approved, but I don't know for how long I'll accept that the car looks like crap...

Regards

Welcome to the forum!

When I had my 88 coupe over in the UK, I converted my reverse lights to turn signals and painted the bulbs yellow. It worked really well. The turn signal and brake system come together at the brake pedal switch.
It was easy and cheap. Ther is a part number for a light that will fit in the reflector on the bottom side of the rear facia. It could be used as a reverse light if they are required. Use the search option, its there.

Good luck

Welcome to the forum Challe!

Well... the strange thing is that my Fiero and my old Corvette both have redish turnsignals on the rear but our DMV (bilbesiktningen) haven't told me anything about that and the Vette has gone through year after year.
The guy that owned and imported (15 years ago) the Fiero that I'm having right now didn't do anything else but fitting 2 yellow reflectors on the bumper but they don't have any bulbs or anything like that... I removed them and the DMV didn't notice.

We have the same rules here in Australia. I converted my 88 Formula to fastback so I have a very nice set of coupe tail lights with amber turn signals for sale. They have been converted but it's undetectable. Not sure if they fit your model. Anyone know ?

Thanks for the quick answers!!
I feel real welcomed to this forum
Regarding the option to put yellow bulbs in the back light, they'll be to much to the middle for the DMV to accept it (atleast thats what I'm told
The four round lights is an option but i'm really "diggin" the original looks.
I'm going to try a new alternative...It's to fit the turn signals in the corners of the back-window, I'll try it tommorow,If it looks okay, i'll insert a picture so the ones of you with the same problem can be helped

Regards

Hi there again.

Where does the cable go for the turn-signals?
Does it go under the floor by one of the doors or so?
I have to locate them since Im going to try to place turnsignals in the coupe by the back window...

I stole this pic off the foru mto give you another idea.

They are really easy to make and you can put in orange into the taillights instead of red, best of all you can switch back to normal in 5-10 min.

hey, thats more like it!

How are they made?
Is that standard taillights just sawn into two pices at the back-lights?

Isn't the standard light-ramp made as one piece?

The stock tail light is 3 parts - the black plastic part that the light bulbs go into, the clear outer lense that snaps onto that rear piece, and the reflectors, colored "grid" things inside. You can carefully unsnap the pieces, and do what you want with the insides.. Some people just take out all the colored pieces and use colored bulbs instead. You can put some kind of "diffusing" material in there to spread out the light a little if you want to also. Just takes a bit of work!

That 3800SC sounds like a load o fun!

I didn't know that the lights were three pieces, I'll try to get a extra pair from the junkyard or somewhere else (in case I'd
brake the lights, I'll need a extra pair...)

The DMV test is on thursday.
Thanks for the help!

Hi Challe!

One way to go is to use the holes in the rear bumper.
The people who imported my Formula 88 to Sweden put the rear turn signal in this hole.
The orange plastic lense is "custom" grinded to fit. I dont know where the turn signals came from. Go to the local autowrecker and look.

3 Swedish Pennock's members in the same topic.. Is that new world record or what????

Yepp... this must be a record!

I don't think we will take over the forum since we're only about 50 "active" Fiero owners in Sweden (sadly)

But it's a start!

Hej fellow Swedes and all Fiero owners!

I've looked at the option with placing the turnsignal in the rear bumper, I haven't found lights that'll place well inside and is E-marked. But maybe later after th e DMV test on Thursday, I'll try to cut apart and adjust a pair of turnsignal to fit in the bumper.
maybe you Swedes been registred on the Swedish fiero forum at www.fiero.nu.
I dind't know about this forum until recently, and must say that it's very fun to get answers from people all around the world instead of just your homecountry, and it's lucky for us swedes since the interest for Fieros not that big in our country. I'll see you on E4an ...

There is a Swedish Fieroforum and it's fairly new.

http://www.fieroforum.tk/

Were both registered there and it's a whole lot more active than www.fiero.nu but the response and knowledge here at Pennocks is amazing...I've saved thousands of dollars just soaking up information in here.

See'ya around!

This is how it got to be for the Swedish DMV-test. Maybe this info will help the ones that unfortenly also must make these kind of modification to be allowed to drive Fieros.
I've drilled a small hole in the rear bumper to insert the cabels. There were a "crash-absorber" behind the bumper that was a bit harder to drill a hole in but after the battery was charged in the electric hand-drill I finally got thru.
Then I just took the wire from the original turn-signals and moved downstairs...

At the side-fenders I found one of those turn-signals that has the bulb in the light so you dont have'to drill a enormus hole for just the bulb. I'm satisfied with the fenders but the turn signals in the rear bumper looks horrible , They'll do for now, after all Its more important that the car get thru the DMV-test...
The good thing is the car can be restored to original look and I haven't carved hole in the bodywork.

Regards

/Challe

I knew there where yours but i couldn't remember how to spell your Username so i left it alone. To make these you simply take the taillight apart and then remove the lenses and replace with the common ones you can buy at auto part stores.

There is mine i blacked out the reverse because i want them in my bumper. Here it is unassembled

BTW steverossi do you know how to lighten them up or how to even make them shine anymore, Mine are quite dull.

I have the same problem here in Spain, but to make matters worse, I can't work out how to separate the brake light wiring and the indicator wiring, I must have two independent operating lights for brakes and turn signal, and my brain will not unravel the way to do it!! I know that the brake pedal operates the system, btu cannot grasp how to re-wire it.I have two light units that will fit in the recesses on the bumper which now hold the reflectors that will become the indicators, but where do I get the wires from to let them work indepewndently from the brake lights?

You might find a decent pair at www.bildelsbasen.se
I found my rear left taillight there for my GT.

If you are good at wiring, you could take the red lenses out of your taillights, use colored red bulbs for the outside 2 lights, and a amber light for the inside bulb next to the reverse light.

you get clear taillights, and amber turn signals.

But, you would have to wire it up that only the red lights come on with the brake, and the amber on with the turn signal.

Helpfull posting...waste of bandwidth?? If I had the problem sorted, I wouldn't go on beating it to death!!If I don't get it sorted within the next 20 hours, I can't pass the inspection, which means I can never use the car again in Spain....That is the way it is here...if it doesn't pass the first time, one strike and you are out!!!

Appreciate your support Kyote...you get a "+".I didn't give Buddycraigg a "-" because I don't believe in negativity!!But...I am still no nearer a solution, so I may have to cut out all the wiring as fitted, which would be a shame, and re=wire both systems separately, if I don't find a solution soon!!

It was suppose to be taken in a joking manner, as I felt that this question was answered a few days ago.

The main reason I am here is to be helpful to other fiero owners.
