Does anyone know of an aftermarket cradle for the 88's? I thought I had information on this but after searching I cannot find it anymore. I would appreciate any help.

Thanks

I have an extruded aluminum cradle out of an Impala SS that I plan to put in my 88GT with a 3.5 TwinCam conversion. It will have to be moded but it is much lighter than my moded 88GT cradle and from a preliminary inspection, it looks doable. It comes with a 3800 on it so for the people that want a 3800 the stock engine mounts for the 3800 will work, just make a dog bone! Yes I see that the 88 and 2000 cradles are different but I think it can be done. I just dont have the time to do it right now.

This is the moded 88 cradle (for the 3.5 or N*)

This is the Impala SS cradle

This is the 3.5 on the aluminum Impala SS cradle.

No it aint after market but it is different.

This looks very interesting. Keep us posted on the progress, if it works out I might just have to look into this idea.

Thanks!

If I could find some one in the vally that could do the welding I may get it going soon but I cand weld it (no skills) but I can weld the stock cradle. The aluminun cradle is not that far off from the 88. That having been said the mods wont be easy all of the suspention pinnings will have to be changed with the cradle mounts. But like I said I think it can be done.

What chassis is the Impala? W? N?

------------------
'87 Fiero GT: Northstar, Getrag, TGP wheels, rear sway bar, rod end links, bushings, etc.

'90 Pontiac 6000 SE AWD: Leaking ABS unit fixed, load levelling rear suspension fixed, still slow

You can wireweld aluminum as well, takes pure argon and either a push-pull gun/line setup or a spool gun. Miller makes a nice GMAW (wire) setup that runs on the street around $1,200-1,500 and has an optional spool gun that plugs right in, no setup required. That's the 250X, I used one in school.
