Dear List:

I've got a few items in the engine compartment that I'd like to paint to match the valve covers and/or intake manifold.

Does anybody know of a paint product (dupli-color, ect.) that matches the OEM items?

Thanks!

J.D.

Here's mine. I used an Heat paint called "Ford Red", yeah I know...ford, but a chip off my plenum matched the color almost exactly.

I'm with Killer on this. Just painted my lower intake and valve covers with the "ford Red" high temp paint by Duplicolor. Almost a perfect match. I kept the upper intake original, and they all look perfect together.

Maybe I'm just too picky (ok, yeah I am!) but I found the Ford red to have too much of an orange hue to it. The same goes for the one they call "Universal Red".

I'll try to find the can of stuff I used in the end that gave the closest match.

Oh - for anyone planning on doing this, it might go without saying but... DON'T use primer on the bare or painted metal! (unless it's heat rated the same or higher than the top coat)

I used the "ford" Red from the eastwood company. I thought it was very close to the original color.

I guess those long winters in Canada allow a lot of time to do some awesome engine painting. I like the Pontiac blue.
Shame they didn't use that in the first place.
