I need to know what size the half-moon key that holds the smaller timing gear and harmonic balancer onto the 3.1 crank is (This is the ARI stroker kit). I found that the 2.8 crank had two slots for keys, one for each item, but the 3.1 crank has only one slot. And the keys I bought won't fit into the slot. It seems that the key is too big. Anybody have this problem? Do I just need to drive the key into the slot with a hammer or what? Thanks.

On my 3.1 I went to the hardware store and bought a #9 woodruff key, I then took some sandpaper, 400 grit I believe, and sanded it down until it was just barely too big, and then tapped it in the center of the hole. It had enuf contact area for both items, It was about 50/50 or so.

I just finished that fiasco.

Just go to a dealer and say you need a crank key for a 3.1L Crankshaft!! Trust me, I got mine from a shop that does nothing but crankshafts all day long.

Use a brass hammer to tap it in.
