OK, I have done numerous engine removals out the bottom, but not out the top. Its a 4cyl, going to a 4cyl.

Is there any speed advantage to going out the top? I need to be back up and runing preferbly fast, so anyone done an engine out the top swap?

Its an 86 4cyl 5speed.

Please, no arguing, I've done the bottom, just wondering how hard/lengthy it is to do it out the top.

Thanks in advance, Karl

With an automatic, it's apiece of cake, with a standard shift, it's pretty tight quarters.

Which is easier? thats up to you. Personally I only ocassionally pull a 4 banger from the top, and only if it's an auto.

I saw the top or bottom thing and I lost my concentration. What was the question again?

Anyone else got some info on this? I usually do all the stuff with cradle out of car, so out the bottom, but I dont play with the 4bangers much.

Should I just go with the cradle out option?

If you are familiar with dropping the cradle, it is faster in the end.

Like I stated earlier, only the 4 banger autos are worth pulling from the top. Any other combination, and it is faster to drop the cradle.

Doesn't make much of a difference unless you want to do some work to the cradle. I pulled a 4banger standard out the top, it didn't take too much to do it. It was a little tight but not bad.

And who doesn't like tight anyway!
Which ever way you go, good luck and may the fiero GOD'S be with you..

If one drops the cradle is a rear wheel realignment required?
No alignment required when removing from the top.

If you don't remove the Struts from the cradle, there shouldn't be a need for an alignment.

I would have to agree with the above people who stated: If you are more familiar with cradle removal, it is probably faster.
Plus side of dropping the cradle , You can clean up the engine bay, have more access to engine/tranny, etc...
