Have you ever replaced the selenoid with a GM one and had the need to reverse the wires because they were wrong from the factory?

What did you have to do to remedy the situation?

Just replaced mine and it doesn't work.

how do you know it dont work. ive been a gm tech for 20 years and ive never seen one wired backwards out of the box. red to red- black to black. 2 wires. ive seen some harnesses inside the trans rubbed bare and been a prob. check and see if you have a blown fuse in the fuse block,or a bad brake switch could cause this prob. but i highly doubt its a bad tcc solenoid. do you know how to check if its working or not.art

Art, I guess I don't know for sure it doesn't work, just assuming it had a problem from info I got from other sources.

I ran a full test using the '84 Fiero shop manual prior to replacing the solenoid and all checked out ok, I heard from Ogre that some people have had trouble with the wires being wrong on the new solenoid and I was trying to track them (the other people) down.

I will re-run the diagnostic check tomorrow to see if I have any other problems I may have missed.

What in your experience do you think the problem could be if all checks out OK?

I have no RPM change when at cruising speed and lightly pressing the brake pedal down to disengage the solenoid.

Did the diagnostic flow chart from the '84 service manual and a couple of my own from looking at the wiring diagram.

Best I can figure out what's wrong is that the presure switch is bad as I get no resistance across the two terminals on the outside of the tranny while the car is in drive and the wheels turning at 35mph.

At that speed the presure switch should be closed causing a reading on my multi-meter when I check the continuity.

I ordered a switch from GM ($5.00) and when I pull the side cover to replace the switch I'll do a check on all the connections.

I'll do a post of my results when I get done.

Thanks for the help people.

I just had one backwards on a GM replacement for my son's Z24. I cut the wires at the solenoid and reversed them. Worked fine after that. If you look, the metal housing of the coil has + and - stamped on them. They went to the wrong locations (swapped). If they are backwards, the solenoid won't work.

Compare the replacement to the old one and see if they match.

OK, so today I replaced the 3rd gear pressure switch and checked all the wires inside the tranny for continuity, everything checked out OK.

I took the car for a drive and the TCC locked up great, my problem was a bad pressure switch and probably a bad solenoid too.

I would strongly recomend replacing both items when you are replacing the solenoid, learn from my mistake, I had to remove that side cover pan twice to get this thing working and I wish I had listened to the advice to do both first, the pressure switch is only another $5.00 from GM so it won't break the bank, plus I had to buy a second side cover gasket for $13.00. Thanks for all the help people.

terryk, I did check my solenoid when I pulled the side cover and the wires on it were correct, thanks for your input.

Cool. I just wanted to make sure you weren't chasing that problem.

I fiddled with the Z24 until I came to grips with the fact I had to take the cover off.

At least it's easy on the car.
