i was wondering if my 84 se has a speedlimiter because it doesnt seem to go over 4200 rpms in 4th gear. i think thats around 100mph as its straight up and down or higher on the speedo.

Dunno.. I've had my '87 GT over 105 so far.. Need to replace the bearings before I do that again though! 15 year old bearings and 105+mph is kind of scary... - Bob Williams

Say it aint so... I am in the middle of the Quad4 swap now, and the first thing I wanted to do was see how fast it will go... Using the 91 Skylark ECM (Auto)

My quad ECM has a limiter at 114mph, and when i hit it, feels like i got on the brakes. Then again, I have almost twice the horsepower than a duke

True. Pontiac knew the Fiero couldn't out-run it's tire rating. I've never seen a chip with a speed limiter only rev limiters (which got removing in mid-86 on the V6's).

MY 87 seems to have a rev limiter at 6000 rpm. I've only hit it a few times in 2nd gear at 60 mph. Scared the crap out of me when the car shut off. I thought I blew the engine.
If it's there, it would be at 6000 off and 4000 on. 6012 and 4008 to be exact. But I've never seen a post 86 chip with the revlimiter. Could be though.

I have a speed limiter on my 3.1 DIS, it's set at 115, detach the vss wire (???) It has the 4 speed OD auto. It also has a rev limiter at 6,000 in drive and 4000 in park/neutral. But no stock fiero has a speed limiter, but I can tell you that I did hit rev limiter on my iron duke in drive/3rd gear, if my TCC was working it probably could have gone alittle faster.

Our 84 has one in the steering wheel evidently. The one, only & positivly last time I drove near 100mph, my knuckles turned so white, I thought the bones were showing thru. Not to mention that awful clatting noise I was starting to hear from the eng compartment. I drove home gingerly, parked it & never told Jane I had just abused her little 2.5 with 100K + miles on it. The only "limiter" that I can think of on my 84SE is the Valve Float. I have done this a couple of times in lower gears and not paying enough attention to the RPMs.

Easy enough to check, unplug the speed sensor on the tranny, see if it has the same rpm limit, if so, it would be just the limitation of the engine most likely. My 85 2.8 has a rev limiter, hold the throttle down in 1st gear and it shuts off at 6000, then turns back on around 4000.
