This is on a 5-sp. I am getting closer to a great shifting experiance, but...

I need to know ...If the shifter lever hits its stops(oppsite side of where the cable connectes to under the shifter lever and console)
Would moving the whole shift plate back toward the rear of the car be correct?
I am hitting (the stud/the stop) when I am going into 1st and 3rd. Makes a clunking sound. Like a bad gate shifter. Oh yes it does shift through the gears.I did notice that the "stop" does not come close to the front of the shifter. Does the "stop" setting need to be "centered"? The "stops" shouldn't be hitting either the front nor the back of the shifting lever ...right?

Moving the shifter plate won't change anything-the cable length needs to be adjusted. Check where the cable attatches to the transaxle. Most of them are slotted and you can adjust the cables there.

I don't know about 5 speeds, but the 4 speed shifter has an aligning hole. Stick a correct size nail, allenwrench in it and it will lock it in place for adjustment of the cables in back.

No it is not the cable. I have messed with that for a while now and the only other answer has to be the adjustment with the shifter plate. I am just wanting more help in the area before I mess something up worse.
