Hi, Does anybody know why my floor lights stay on when the fuse is blown (with the door closed)? It's the 20amp fuse for the trunk release, trunk light and the interior overhead lights. The floor lights will stay on until I replace the fuse.

Does your trunk light still work, and everything else that is supposed to be on that 20amp circut? If it is only the lights that stay on, it just meanst that it is definatly getting power somewhere else; somewhere else a hot wire is providing it with continuous power. Whatever line is giving them power is definatly touching or connected to the lights after the door jamb switch, rendering the switch useless, in sense.
Just double check all the wires that go to and from the courtesy lights. This may involve a little bit of interior panel removal.
dont know what else there is to say, wierd problem!
Sounds like it might be a ground problem. When I was working on the front facia of my 85 SE last winter I had all kinds of wierd problems with the right side turn signal light ( kind of working, etc.) until I discovered the connector was coroded and was affecting the ground. It was causing all kinds of strange lighting problems.
Might be worth curling up by the fire with a good wiring diagram. What fun!

It's likely a sneak feed to something on the dead circuit. the low mount interior lights are joined to the dome lights, etc, at the A post switch.
If you are blowing fuses then something in the CTSY/Lid circuit is drawing a hell of allot of power. Enough to pull juice thru the other circuit enough to light the lamps.

I installed my power doorlock kit using that wire in the fuse block. After 1 year, it is now not working properly and blowing that fuse, so I disconnected it.

theogre hit it right, from my experience with this years ago. The trunk light is probably grounding out the positive side of the connector to the body, causing the fuse to blow. If you disconnect the light assembly for any reason, it is easy to reverse the polarity, causing a direct short to ground. If you look in the wiring diagrams in the back of a Haynes manual, you can trace out a reverse feed via the ground circuit to power the floor lights when the trunklid/courtesy light fuse is blown.
ah, i just had a problem kind of like this. it freaked the hell outta me when i blew a fuse messin with my new cd player. i accidentally touched two wires and it blew the fuse. i had to go get another fuse inside my house, and when i came back, i noticed the stereo was flickering and the two door(floor) lights were on very dim. i replaced that fuse and it solved the problem. hope this helps.

My cigarette lighter went bad, and would blow it's fuse whenever I used it and I would get the exact same symptoms as Sqoach, radio flickering and the interior lights would would light up dimly when I tried to use the lighter. Replaced the fuse, took out the ciggy lighter and all was well. It was the 20 amp fuse marked "BAT", right next to the circuit breaker for the power windows. Sounds like you have the same problem, just with a different fuse.

You're not the only one with this problem. Mine does that too. My trunk light hasn't worked since I bought it. Being low on the priority list, I left it alone. Something back there shorts out and blows a fuse when I overload my trunk and then the lower interior lights stay on until I replace the fuse. I've seen my stereo blink before too, but I thought it was finally burning out. It doesn't work very well. I didn't overload my trunk until this holiday so I didn't know till recently. Time to follow my wires in the trunk to find the short. Maybe it's missing a grommet and shorting where it passes through some sheet metal somewhere. I hope I find time this weekend to work on it before it pops another fuse.

I just wrapped the light bulb holder with fiberglass insulating tape, where it pokes through the sheet metal, and made sure the positive wire is connected to the inner post. No more problems.

You guys might have just helped me. When I got the car I put a stereo in it and afterwards my horn wouldn't work and the floor light wouldn't go off. I pulled the bulb and figured I'd deal with it later. Thanks 86 se
