I’m considering a 3.1 rebuild on my 1987 GT and I’ve been pricing some of the pre-packaged kits. Are the $1000 kits, like the one PISA is advertising, worth the money or would compiling the parts manually be substantially cheaper. Would I be basically paying for the ‘leg-work’ of obtaining the parts by purchasing the PISA kit?

My engine is in the shop getting rebuilt right now. I've never assembled an engine by myself, so I'm having them do all the labor. including all parts (3.1 crank, some valves, lifters, cam, reconditioned rods, pistons, etc) hot tank, bore .020 over, 3 angle valve job, balance, align hone, etc, and the labor for $1700. And I'm figurine labor to be the majority of that. I'd say shop arround a bit, you may fin cheaper stuff, but if it needs machining, you're out the cash anyways, but you might luck out
