I have an 85 SE with the speakers behind your head in the sail panel area... what size are these? I just recently purchased a new cd palyer from crutchfield and and i am wanting to upgrade my speakers now. Any suggestion on some good 4X10's for up front and some good speakers for the rear (what ever the size is) I have a set of 10" kickers too that i would like to put behind the seats, when i get around to getting some boxes made.. any reccomendations on any of these speakers?
A 1985 SE should not have the rear speakers in the sail panels, unless someone has modified your car. The later models like my 87 SE had 4" X 6" sail panel speakers. Both of my 85 cars has the rear speakers in the headrest like Monkey said.
My 85 GT has em in the seats too.... hard to tell if my car is actually a 85 SE... according to the vin its suppose to be an 85, se, with 4 cyl... its got the body style of my 85 gt, and it has a v6 in it.. hmm... someone may have swapped dashes before i got it?
Someone could've swapped the aero nose and changed engines, yada, yada...but chances are pretty good that your car is actually a 86 or 87 SE. Maybe they had two Fieros and put one together, or maybe the title is bogus or who knows? About the speakers, I'd get the same brand and type as the front ones. Kicker Impulse, Kenwood, Pioneer, etc. Lots of good choices. I'd get poly cones and at least two way, if not three way speakers.
I ditched the rear speaker for weight and cause their too close to your head for any decent imaging. I have 2 sets of MB Quart 4" Coaxial run by a Kenwood KAC-626. www.fiero.nl/uploads/in-n-out.jpg 10" Kicker solobaric. Hits to 141db and is CLEAR as a bell. can make a full sweep with only 11% THD at 67hz. (full sweep 20hz to 20 khz) You can't get clear sound out of an oval speaker. I have stuck my foot in my mouth cause i just purchased a Kicker L7 10". I'll let ya know how that works... but you might want to look in to a couple sets of 4"s.
with the car being SO small you don't need speakers behind you to simulate a reverb off the rear of a concert hall... a nice set of front speakers with a SOFT dome tweeter will be able to project this spacial element without you wasting more space in the car... and yet again.. you can't get clear sound fron an oval speaker... with any high volume listening you'll flake the speaker and you'll be disappointed with its responce and lack of output. go to NAPA and get an ABC fire extinguisher if you want somthing behind your seat... behind the other seat should be the Amp/s.
