Does anybody know what as far as wiring, motor mounts, machine work, and anything else needs to be done for the 3.1 conversion.
My 2.8 is about dead(uses like a quart or more per tank and the compression is gone). I want to rebuild or upgrade with the most bang for about 1500 bucks. doing everything i can my self. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks

If you get a 3.1 from a Transport, you should not need any wiring or engine mount modifications. The block is the same as a Fiero with different internal components. You can get a remanufactured 3.1 from Pisa Corp $2200. Then install it or get someone else to do that work. ATK redoes the engines for them and I'm sure Jasper would have remanufactured 3.1 engines that would fit Fieros
You could see Twin Lake Fiero and get a new 3.4 engine installed for $4k or so.

Old Lar(or who ever can help).... I have an 87 4 cylinder, I was going to swap out for the 2.8, but i see that the 3.1 is the same. IS??? the swap for the 3.1 outta a Transport the same? I have access to the 3.1 already. So that would be easier to get than the 2.8. What would I need to do the swap from the 2.5 to the 3.1?? Hopefully I will see " Oh the 2.8 and the 3.1 swaps are the same" lol thanks all ~

I did a 3.1 conversion to my engine. In hindsight, I would have been better off using a 3.4 block (with starter relocation) and building up the short block from there. I took too much time for my machinist to get around to my engine, and meanwhile the Fiero sits around in the garage without a soul. Converting the Fiero's top end to a 3.4 shortblock and installing a new clutch should take no more than a week. In comparision, my car sat around with no engine for five months. You may have to get some different rods (I think the 3.4 conversion uses stock Fiero rods) to keep your car running, but the lack of down time should be worth the expense. Of course all this could be done with another 2.8 block, but wouldn't you like the extra displacement?
Do a search for 3.2, you should find all you'd ever want to know in some of these old threads. You can even enter my name to see what I wrote on the subject.
I gave $400 for my 3.4 engine, $75 more for the accessories that should have been on the engine anyway (alternator, starter etc.)$88 for a new manual tranny flywheel. I drilled the starter holes myself- about $15 for the metric tap and a drill bit. The engine has 70,000 miles on it. I am going to add the GM roller cam, and probably Crane roller rockers. You can get the engine done for much less than what others are charging.
