Does anyone have any general advice on the 2.8 to 3.1 engine conversion.

I just priced a set of Speed Pro hypereutectic pistons from Summit. Based on the head volume being 56cc, the compression ratio would be 10.1:1. Is this to high for the stock computer? Does anyone know of a particular piston to buy?

Auto Zone has a 3.1 crank (981 casting) for about $190. Could I do better with a used crank?

If some of you 3.1 guys are out there, please give me some advice on this undertaking. Thanks.

10.1 is on the high side for street use. Try Federal Mogul that makes piston with a reverse done 0.110" deep for 3.1 blocks and Silver O Rite makes a piston 0.106" deep (cast pistons) The last one will give you 8.3 to 1 ratio that is good for turbo ( I just bought a set). I had to bought a 3.1 short block from a 95 Lumina(piston are very low 27 cc rev. dome because of the aluminum heads. The 3.1 with iron heads have pistons with less rev. dome.
