what did u think of the auto show at chicago. i went today and just dont know what to think all these hybrids... i compare them to cars of the nineties and they get worse mpg's. what complete idiots. at the auto show pontiac had nothing that wasnt out five years ago. there was NO concept cars in sight. the only thing was the corvette stingray. too many lines for me. what happend to gm being a show stopper with pontiac and cadillac. i hardly saw one caddy. what is the deal. ok im definitely going to make some designs for gm to consider. they obviously need someone with worse eyesight than them to tell them they are headed off a cliff !!! |

I went last weekend. It seemed to me that Pontiac was pretty much shoved in the corner to be forgotten about. All of the other displays were much more interesting and eye-catching; Saturn and Saab had very bright, optimistic color schemes, Cadillac had a lot of screens and flashy designs, Chevy had the whole Transformers thing as well as the Volt and the Camaro (which had a huge line to get through if you wanted to sit in it, especially the SS). GMC was basically attached to Chevy, and Buick was thrown in the middle somewhere. There was absolutely nothing to lead you over to the Pontiac end of things. People would walk right by to get to the (very few) vendors at the end. It was sad, too, because all of the Pontiac people really wanted to talk to everyone about the cars, but no one seemed to listen. I think GM definitely put the displays in order of favoritism. Pontiac and Saturn are definitely the least to be desired, unfortunately, despite their attractive cars. Also, the G3 is hideous. If it were able to save Pontiac, then so be it, but people will just think it's an Aveo. GM is not advanced enough in the realm of alternative fuels and new cars as everyone else is. Just look at what all of the foreign cars had to offer! Even Hyundai had more attention than GM. (At least, all of them but Chevy and Caddy.) GM needs to hop on the bandwagon sooner than asap. The only things they had for the modern market were the Volt and a few scattered hybrids. Not good, GM. |

i agree. i think gm had its but handed to em by even ford in this auto show. i say that with a verry verry sad face. overall i think that dodge-chrysler-jeep had the best there with their srt10 acr and the whole truck/jeep show thing....the test road. i hated mini cooper. come on. make a new car mini......sad scion was like it is...ricer imports. i made a point to find the pontiac stuff. i was apalled. no new stuff. i saw that stuff at the local fair in sandwich. i expected to see some concepts art. but to my demise saw didly squat. i did like that gtmr supercar though. 150 grand for a supercar.... id buy it. dodge had their new elec car that i want. i think that volt is just too low of distance range. needs to go like at least 200 miles. i sure hope that gm gets some stuff straightend out and makes some concepts pretty darn soon. it should boost em up. the most common motor for gm is sadly that ecotec.... no bashing meant but it was just too popular in thier lineup. they need some more choices... like a twin turbo inline six |

personally im very upset with gm right now. im gonna have to write a very intrigueing letter to some supervisors i think they should do a 3.5 V8 diesel for some performance cars. or a 4.5 duramax in their G8 i would definitely buy a couple if they could pull that off with a reasonable price tag |

I had a older friend that went to the Montreal 2009 auto show and he wasn't to impressed with the total number of cars on display. I have to imagine that the big 3 are probably trying to cut costs or something. I was told that even at the entrance people were giving 1 plastic bag for all there brochers (automotive booklets for each car), instead of each company giving them out with their own logo. My friend said that was the first time he has seen this at an auto show. Its a good idea for the envoiroment, but that was his comment. I can't really comment because I wasn't there. I'm not suprised with other peoples thoughts. It's just a bad time for the big 3 I guess. |

not such a bad time really. its just that they dont try that well. i mean they brought out their econo-beaters and left all the goodies. no super cool displays or sweet motor designs of next year. all last five to ten year stuff. not even changed up. granted chevy had the vette and the new stingray. i will give credit for that, but really pontiac was choked to death there. buick had that famous "some old guy farted" look. get this chevy and pontiac had absolutely NO 3800 series motors. i didnt check up on buick that much but wasnt all that interested either. i never liked buick styling. ford showed their stuff and brought out some goodies. but dodge bested them with the obstacle course and rides. id been forewarned that porsche wasnt coming. but kinda wished they wudda been there cuz of the 911's and the carerra gt. i have to go to some more of these shows and get a letter to gm explaining that 2.0 turbos cant even come close to a 5.7 fully blown vette. and ECONOBOXES AREN'T SPORTS-CARS. SO QUIT TRYING TO MAKE THEM THAT. the way you get economy is a tiny engine and tall gearing from a six speed manual the way you get power is from a massive engine and a gearing to match your driving style. wether that be tight corner racing or large circle track. im getting sick and tired of this trying to meet in the middle somewhere and advance nowhere |

GM is going low key at the auto shows right now since they are in business only because they are operating on tax payer money, and they don't want to ruffle feathers in congress by spending it on elaborate auto show displays. |

really? didnt know that.... why oh why. i loved that motor. soo perfect for everything, from fieros,to pickups that motor was cool super efficient and great mpgs. gm needs a smack in the face. sorry ranting. not that this whole thread hasnt been a rant... well im well vented now. i think imma go rest my legs from standing around all day at the show man they are tired |

Here are my pictures . Sorry they are out of order. Pictures whee wow!!! ![]() Pontiac had a lot of silver and dark cars there. They needed a bit more color. |

Of course, that makes sense. I'm pretty sure nothing was too new from last year's show, just a little updated. None of the automakers were extravagant in their displays. It was a very select group of vehicles from every automaker. It made for a nice show, just small. |

thanks for the pictures. im guessin these werent taken today{friday} otherwise you would have snagged someone that i know in one of them. already brings back the memories. those mercedes SLR series were pretty amazing. also do you know if the automakers took off most of the shift knobs before they rolled em out onto the carpet or did some stupid punk kid steal them knobs cuz i noticed that most of the cars had no shift knobs on them unless they were bolt on . |

I cannot speak for the particulars for Chicago, but I did attend the NAIAS in Detroit last month. Both GM and Chrysler were very low key. The rest of Detroit was closer to the normal show, more extravagent displays and such. GM basically highlighted the Volt and a Caddy version (the Converj) but otherwise, no big expensive displays, and the new models and showcars there but not highlighted too much. Such as the G8 GXP, Solstice coupe, The new LaCrosee and Equinox, etc. |

The automakers take off all of the removable knobs and switches of any sort so people don't steal them. It's been like that for awhile if I remember correctly. People will unfortunately steal anything. The Converj was pretty sweet. If it weren't for the price tag I'd sign up! haha. Cadillac's main focus was the Converj and the CTS Wagon, both of which are very, very nice cars. Cadillac has a good thing going, unfortunately they're way out of my price range. Those pictures were taken when Mark (snowblindburd) and I went last Saturday, the 14th. Edit: There are only ten people in that picture, and one of them is a Pontiac person. Sad! ![]() Let's see if I can sum up my trip nice and short: Took the early train from Milwaukee to Chicago(great way to get there by the way) Got there right when it opened and headed straight to GM Made friends with the girl that gave the speech about the Saturn Flexstreme (she didn't know **** about cars but she was cool) Found out that they had a cute Swedish girl behind the Saab counter that didn't know were Wisconsin was Talked for 20 minutes to a VW guy about clean diesels, hybrids and such Got really crowded and left On the way home realized that I completely missed Buick, darn Ya, that pretty much does it Pontiac had three new vibes there, you know, the pieces of **** Overall GM had good displays, but I agree, Pontiac was weak [This message has been edited by Renegade blob (edited 02-20-2009).] |

The Pontiac display is considerably scaled-down from previous years, but given the financial situation I am not surprised. PICS!!! ![]() http://flickr.com/photos/jo...s/72157613963504160/ |

When I went last year, I was pretty excited to see the Cobalt SS Turbocharged. I wanted to get a neat picture of that little badge they come with, but someone had yanked it off the car. I let the Chevy spokespeople know out of kindness. That's pretty low. I think the only two automakers I didn't get a great look at were the Toyotas (I was in the section but never made it back after venturing off to Nissan), and the Caddilacs (I looked at the wagon and the CTS sitting near it, completely forgot to walk into their section lol. I didn't really look at the Jags either. Thanks for posting your pics as well . |

I just got back from the Dallas auto show and the Pontiac display wasnt too bad. It wasnt huge but they had some newer cars there. They had the Solstice Coupe. The G8 GXP and that stupid G3 (rebaged Aveo). It was towards the back of the DCC and up by the wall. |

The Stingray concept is not that bad looking IMO, I'm not a fan of the headlights or the "wings" for the taillights, but the car otherwise looks badass. If they smoothed it out a bit it would look alot better.![]() ![]() |
|||||
|

Well, the concept almost always looks nothing like the production car (see: Aztek), so if they for some reason produced this Stingray Corvette, I'm sure it would be barely recognizable as this concept :P |
|||||
|
|||||

I think that Stingray is awesome. There never going to produce it though, even if the economy was good It's just for the transformers movie |

Looks like the Corvette Concept team was on a break and at the last minuted they decided to copy some of the Lambo lines. The bad thing about the concept is- it will never be built for none of the bat wings are useless. How much money did it take to build it? This has been the case for GM for many, many years and when they do decide to build it- it's a trickle-down mods. The Lambo boys- it's different story... they built it. ![]() ![]() |
