'84 - '87 Manual Transmission Axle Replacement - Step by Step Photo Log (Page 2/4)

Nice write-up, and good photos!

However, I'd like to make one comment. The manual transmissions only hold around 2 quarts of oil, whereas the TH125 automatic transmission holds around 9 quarts of oil. So if you pop the axles without draining the TH125, it's going to leak a lot of fluid.

Great writeup Blooz..!! With great pics..!!

Thanks..!!

I usually tap a screwdriver in the pinch bolt tang slot on the knuckle to facilitate the removal and installation of the ball joint stub.

Great write-up.

I always break the axle nut loose a turn or so before initially jacking up the car to make things easier.

Wish I had these kinds of write ups to go by when I was first learning to do this stuff!

Great contribution to the forum

Wow... thanks guys. This thread has actually been out there since early this summer. I had even forgotten about it! Good to see that a few people found it useful.

Solid write up. Didn't see this one in the summer but I am glad that some one bumped it back to today's board. Blooze your undercarriage looks awesome and nicely detailedl. (and just to make it clear I'm talking about your fiero) I'd give you a + but I already have for all of your earlier contributions that have saved my butt.

Excelllent write up and I'm sure that someone in the future will be thanking all things mechanical that you put it up. Interesting choice of color for the axles, engine block, pulley, coil springs etc. What made you go for that particular color on a black car? It does come out very nicely from all the black background parts.

Kudos on keeping it all VERY clean!

+ for you as well! Bravo!

Thanks WKDFIRO. When it comes to color accents, I find that there seems to be only four colors that most people use: red, black, silver or Ford blue. I wanted to avoid the same-old, same-old, and the only primary or secondary color that looks right in my mind is yellow. It's a color that looks clean, and brightens up the lower parts that are often hard to see because they're in a dark area. Yellow isn't in everybody's book of favorite colors for sure, but I started using it in almost all of my engine rebuilds and it's sort of become a trademark for me.
