Read the label. It says, “Mrs. Butterworth’s Original Syrup”, but yet it also states, “-NOW- Thicker ‘n Richer”. Thicker and richer than what? The original? Obviously, somebody is lying to us. Unless of course, they are referring to Mrs. Butterworth herself. But, calling her thick is just impolite and it seems to me that she was rather portly to begin with. In addition, I am not convinced that the syrup industry is sufficiently lucrative as to make her substantially richer. Besides, shouldn’t it be Ms Butterworth’s?

Nothing like adding "New and Improved" or "Now Richer and Thicker" to actually say:
"We were not selling you the best product we could make before, but since or sales have slipped against our superior competition we finally decided to do better."

Considering that I can't recall anyone ever actually seeing MR. Butterworth, you have a good point.[This message has been edited by randye (edited 02-16-2019).]

Yeah. Heh, many brands do it. It's all in the packaging to suck the gullible in. My Wife, while far from gullible, is a gullible shopper. Except when I tell her what I want. She thinks it's romantic for us to be going shopping together. Not me, I want to get in and out ASAP, especially when it's crowded. She takes time to look at all of the new varieties (of what she wants).
In fact, all the new and improved stuff further adds to the overcrowding. Either people taking time to peruse the new offerings, or those like me who look for the familiar logo / name brand that I actually want and get 'er done. Now I find myself having to spend time looking for the original that I like and want. [rant / rant off]
What ever happened to the "New Coke" ?

I have seen Mrs Butterworth. She is married to Mr Butterworth. They live just down the street.[This message has been edited by cliffw (edited 02-18-2019).]
